LA RIVIERA, Sacramento County — Howe Avenue River Access offers another river recreation stop reached from La Riviera Drive, downstream of the Watt Avenue access and close to California State University, Sacramento.
Sacramento County describes a car-top launch area for smaller rafts and boats, riverbank access, a drinking fountain and restrooms. Its nearby path network connects to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail, making the site an option for people cycling or walking the American River corridor. The access area also shows how county flood-control levees share space with recreation.
The county cautions that swimming or diving is not encouraged because the river can be cold and fast-moving even in seemingly calm spots. Visitors should not confuse the existence of a boat-launch area with a lifeguarded swimming beach.
Practical information
The access area is open sunrise to sunset, with vehicle fees collected year-round according to the park page. Use the county’s route instructions and current site notices before arrival, since special events and high-water conditions can affect access.
