LA RIVIERA, Sacramento County — Residents of La Riviera have a year-round access point to the American River at the county’s Watt Avenue recreation area, with a designated location for rafts, canoes and kayaks to enter or leave the water.
Sacramento County says visitors arriving from U.S. Highway 50 can use the northbound Watt Avenue exit and La Riviera Drive to reach the park gates. The site also offers riverbank fishing and picnic opportunities. Although some visitors wade or swim, the county stresses that river swimming is undertaken at their own risk; currents and changing conditions can be dangerous.
The official park page lists sunrise-to-sunset hours and year-round parking charges, including $8 for a standard vehicle, with larger fees for trailers, recreational vehicles and buses. Rates can rise during summer holiday periods, and self-payment may be required when no attendant is present.
Practical information
Boaters should plan a lawful launch and pickup, wear properly fitting life jackets and check river conditions before entering the water. The facility’s opening status and access rules may change with flooding or maintenance, so verify current county notices before travel.
